Wildlife Trafficking: The International Epidemic of Poaching
Date: March 7, 2020
Time: 12 p.m.
Cost: Free for Members or with Museum Admission
The illegal wildlife trade is a multibillion-dollar contraband industry, ranked just behind drugs, guns and human trafficking. A large demand for exotic animals — for jewelry, pets, medicine, meat, trophies and more — is driving a poaching epidemic and threatening the continued existence of many species. In Poached: Inside the Dark World of Wildlife Trafficking, journalist Rachel Nuwer explores the seedy underbelly of the illegal wildlife trade, tracking down poachers, criminal kingpins and illicit users. Ultimately, Nuwer shows that wildlife crime can largely be solved — if only we care enough to do it.
This program will be held in the Organized Crime Today Exhibit in a videoconference format.
