Mobile App Face Data
Only the raw user image and preferred gender result is collected for the Dopplegangster facial recognition feature. To protect the privacy of Doppelgangster users, the Museum does not store or maintain user images or face data.

Once an image is provided by the user via the app, an algorithm is applied on the image within the supporting backend system to first detect if there is a face in the image provided by the user. Then the algorithm conducts calculations on the facial features, for example distance between eyes, ears, length of nose, to provide a series of facial feature scores. Those scores are compared to the facial scores of the existing database of approved Doppelgangster images to provide a user’s top three images that they look most similar to.

Though the Museum does not maintain or store any user images or face data, disclosure to third parties will be limited to those required to comply with any valid court order or government regulation.

To protect the privacy of Doppelgangster users, the Museum does not share user images or face data with any third parties. Users who choose to share images to third party websites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, are advised that The Mob Museum has no control over such third parties and assumes no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of these third party websites.

No face data, including user images and facial scores, are stored on the app or backend system.  The image and associating scores are discarded once the user is done reviewing their Doppelgangster results.
