Booze and the Border: Canada’s Key Role in Prohibition
Where did Americans get their liquor during Prohibition? Much of it came from our friends to the north in Canada. Gord Steinke, author of Mobsters and Rumrunners of Canada, will discuss the Canadians who made lucrative connections with the American underworld during Prohibition. He will explain how Canada’s underground booze operations flourished through partnerships with the likes of Chicago Mob boss Al Capone and Detroit’s Purple Gang.
This program will be held in the Historic Courtroom. A book signing follows the program.
