Protests against police use of force have spurred nationwide conversations surrounding possible changes to law enforcement. In this public forum, a panel featuring Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, Assemblyman Tom Roberts (R-Las Vegas), and other experts will discuss proposed and recently enacted reforms.

Aaron Ford, Nevada Attorney General
Before being elected Nevada's Attorney General, Aaron Ford served as the Majority Leader of the Nevada State Senate. He has been the Minority Leader, Assistant Majority Whip, and previously held a leadership role on several legislative committees. He was recognized as best Senate Freshman by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Rookie of the Year by the Reno Gazette Journal, and Senator of the Year by both Help Animals Nevada and the Nevada Conservation League for his work during the 2013 Nevada Legislative session. AG Ford earned his B.A. from Texas A&M University in Interdisciplinary Studies and his M.A. in International Education from George Washington University. He also earned an M.A. in Educational Administration, his law degree and Ph.D. in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University. Before practicing law, AG Ford served as a public school math teacher, shaping hundreds of lives. Among his many community accolades, he has served on the Clark County Justice of the Peace Selection Committee and recognized as a Mountain States' "Super Lawyer" and "Rising Star in Law". AG Ford is a former Board Member of the I Have a Dream Foundation, Olive Crest of Nevada, and Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada.
Tom Roberts, Assemblyman, R-Las Vegas
Tom Roberts is a Nevada politician and former law enforcement officer serving as a member of the Nevada Assembly from the 13th district. Roberts earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from the Community College of the Air Force in 1993, a B.S. in education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1999, a master of human relations degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2016. Roberts joined the United States Air Force at age 19. He served from April 1984 to August 1993, spending nine years as a law enforcement specialist. Roberts served as a police officer in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department from August 1993 until his retirement in January 2018. At the time of his retirement, Roberts was an assistant sheriff.
Thedrick Andres, Chief of Police, Henderson Police Department
Thedrick Andres was sworn in on July 8th, 2019 as the 14th Chief of Police at the City of Henderson. Chief Andres has more than 28 years of law enforcement experience in corrections and municipal policing. He is a proven law enforcement leader with diverse experience in practices, procedures and methods of modern municipal police administration and operations. He has a strong track record in strategic crime reduction, evidence-based policing and community/geographic policing concepts. In addition, Chief Andres has an extensive background in working with city management, elected officials and community stakeholders.
Chief Andres began his law enforcement career in Corrections at Louisiana State Penitentiary serving as a Corrections Sergeant at Angola State Prison. His police career has covered two police departments, New Orleans PD and Arlington PD, where he worked in both patrol and investigative assignments including Community Policing, Covert Operations, Street Crimes Unit, and Criminal Investigations.
Throughout his active law enforcement career, Chief Andres utilized personal and professional experiences to educate the public on a variety of issues concerning community relations and law enforcement. During his tenure with the New Orleans Police Department, Chief Andres was instrumental in developing innovative programs that addressed a wide range of law enforcement issues including ‘Police-Community Relations’, ‘Midnight Basketball’, ‘Gang Prevention’, ‘Youth Safety & Awareness’ and ‘Senior Safety’, just to name a few.
Chief Andres attended Southern University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT), the 54th School of Executive Leadership at the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration (ILEA) and more recently executive training through the Senior Management Institute of Policing (SMIP) and the Chief Executive Officer Mentoring Program (NOBLE). He is a member of the Nevada Sheriffs’ & Chiefs’ Association, Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
Wesley Juhl, Communications Manager, ACLU
Wesley Juhl joined The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada as communications manager in August 2017. He earned his undergraduate degree at UNLV, where he studied journalism and creative writing. He covered crime, police and public safety at the Las Vegas Review-Journal for years and has earned three Nevada Press Association awards for his work there. The ACLU is a nonprofit organization founded in 1920 "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States.” The ACLU provides legal assistance in cases when it considers civil liberties to be at risk. Juhl is a native Las Vegan who enjoys comic books, poetry and spending time with family and friends.
