HAVANA NOCTURNE AUTHOR SPEAKS AT THE MOB MUSEUM, SATURDAY, AUGUST 8

LAS VEGAS (August 2015) – On Saturday, Aug. 8, at 1 p.m., The Mob Museum, The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, will host an Author Talk with T.J. English. English will discuss his New York Times best-selling book, “Havana Nocturne,” and will be on hand to sign books following the presentation.

In “Havana Nocturne,” English tells the compelling backstory behind the world of mobsters such as Meyer Lansky and Charles “Lucky” Luciano, when Cuba was the great hope for the future of American organized crime in the post-Prohibition years.

He will share stories from his book about the relationship and balance of power between the Mob and the corrupt, repressive government of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. That relationship—with Batista in the Mob’s pocket—launched an unprecedented tourism boom of lavish entertainment and gambling in Havana, English says. The boom ended with Fidel Castro and the uprising of Cuba’s disenfranchised citizens against Batista and his foreign partners.

English, a former taxi driver turned journalist, is the best-selling author of seven nonfiction books, including “Havana Nocturne” and “The Savage City,” both in development for possible television or movie production. He also has written several episodes for television crime dramas and has had articles published in national magazines including Vanity Fair and Esquire. English’s latest book, “Where the Bodies Were Buried: Whitey Bulger and the World that Made Him,” is to be published in September 2015.

This event follows the Museum’s annual Hot Havana Nights celebration, which takes place Thursday, August 6, from 6 to 10 p.m., when guests will indulge in everything vibrant about Cuban culture, including its delectable cuisine, the sounds of the nine-piece Cuban-American Jazz band Rumbantela and dances such as the Tango and Conga. Classic casino games including roulette, craps and baccarat will be available, as will tropical cocktails and a cigar bar. Hot Havana Nights is sponsored by Johnson Brothers of Nevada and presented in collaboration with the Cuban Heritage Foundation.

This Author Talk with T.J. English is free with Museum admission and free for members. To make reservations, please call (702) 229-2734 or visit www.TheMobMuseum.org.
