PHOTO ADVISORY: VELVETEEN RABBIT WINS ANNUAL BOSS OF THE BARS CONTEST AT THEM MOB MUSEUM’S REPEAL DAY EXTRAVAGANZA

LAS VEGAS (December 2015) –The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces the winner of the third-annual Boss of the Bars cocktail contest. Velveteen Rabbit won the coveted Repeal Day Cup.

Andrew Schumacher competed on behalf of the winning bar, preparing the “Here’s Looking at You Fizz” and “Tomoka Sour.”

Runner-up was Oscar’s Steakhouse, which entered history-inspired drinks: “Churchill Storm” and “Titanic en Surprise.” Oscar’s Steakhouse was represented by bartender Celeste Peterson.

The designated People’s Choice award went to Glutton, whose bartender Dean Howard prepared two crowd-favorite drinks, “The Dewdropper” and “Watchoo Talkin’ ‘Bout Willis.”

In addition to the Boss of the Bars contest, the Museum’s Repeal Day party featured a Prohibition-era-inspired costume contest. Rene Munoz of Las Vegas earned the Best Costume designation, while Nicole Munkdale and April Hebert, both from Las Vegas, tied for second place.

Judges for the contest included Joy Robertson, host and producer, FoodChannel.com; Xania Woodman, senior editor, dining, beverage and nightlife, Vegas Seven; Eric Gladstone, freelance blogger and food and beverage writer; and Scott Deitche, author of “Cocktail Noir: From Gangsters and Gin Joints to Gumshoes and Gimlets,” a lively look at the intertwining of alcohol and the underworld. Judges for the costume contest included Deirdre Clemente, assistant professor of history, associate director of the public history program, University of Nevada Las Vegas; Debrae Little, longtime costume designer for stars of opera and the stage; Jen Taler, operating partner, Stitch Factory; and Polly Weinstein, owner, The Jeweler’s Daughter.
