THE MOB MUSEUM TO HOST TOWN HALL DISCUSSION ON QUESTION 1: STATE BALLOT INITIATIVE TO EXPAND FIREARM BACKGROUND CHECKS, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 7 P.M.
LAS VEGAS (September 2016) – The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, will host a special Town Hall discussion about Question 1, the Nevada State ballot initiative to expand firearm background checks, on Thursday, September 29, at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m. In addition, onsite voter registration will be available.
“One of the most important duties a museum performs is to facilitate dialogue about issues that relate to its subject matter and directly impact people’s lives,” said Jonathan Ullman, executive director and CEO, The Mob Museum. “This event presents an opportunity for members of the community to understand the upcoming ballot initiative more thoroughly while participating in a civil and detailed discussion.”
Panelists representing both sides of the issue will explain what the initiative means and why they are or are not in favor of its passage. Town Hall panelists will include:
- Stavros S. Anthony, councilman, City of Las Vegas.
- Jennifer Crowe, spokesperson for Nevadans for Background Checks.
- Dan Reid, state legislative liaison, National Rifle Association.
- William Sousa, professor and director of the Center for Crime and Justice Policy at UNLV.
- Steve Wolfson, district attorney, Clark County.
College of Southern Nevada history professor and president of the Las Vegas League of Women Voters, Sondra Cosgrove, will moderate the panel.
“In line with the Museum’s Core Value of Commitment to Community, we feel it important to host a balanced panel of local experts who will frame the issue and provide a public forum for questions and answers,” explains Kimberly Kindig, director of strategic partnerships, The Mob Museum.
The event is free for Nevada residents only, but reservations must be made in advance. For more information or to reserve space, click here or call (702) 229-2734.
