THE MOB MUSEUM ANNOUNCES JANUARY, FEBRUARY PROGRAMS

LAS VEGAS (December 2020) – The Mob Museum, The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces its roster of public programs for January and February, as well as monthly specials inside The Underground Speakeasy.

January Mocktails

Date: Jan. 1 to Jan. 31

Time: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Location: The Underground speakeasy and distillery, located in the basement of The Mob Museum.

Description: In honor of the era when liquor was illegal and mobsters made millions, the Museum invites guests to savor signature mocktails for $7 each. With an array of tempting flavors, these refreshing alcohol-free options will make visitors want to go dry, too.

Complimentary Mask, Sanitizer Promotion in The Underground

Date: Jan. 1 to Jan. 31

Time: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Location: The Underground speakeasy and distillery, located in the basement of The Mob Museum.

Description: Guests who spend $50 in The Underground can receive a complimentary Mob Museum mask and 1-ounce bottle of The Mob Museum’s hand sanitizer, which is produced in The Underground’s award-winning distillery. Made from 80-percent alcohol to help eliminate germs, the Museum’s hand sanitizer follows FDA-issued guidance and is free of added scents, dyes or perfumes.

January Community Safety Forum: Human Trafficking Prevention (The presenter for this event will appear in-person.)

Date: Sunday, Jan. 10

Time: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Description: A Justice Department study identified Las Vegas as one of 17 U.S. cities most likely to be a destination for human trafficking victims. In recognition of National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, Erin Kauffman, program coordinator of SEEDS of Hope, will discuss recent efforts to combat human trafficking in Las Vegas. SEEDS, which stands for saving, empowering, educating and restoring dreams, is part of the Salvation Army. A livestream of the presentation will be posted on the Museum’s website thanks to NV Energy’s generous support.

The Whiskey Club: National Bootlegger’s Day – SOLD OUT (waitlist available)

Date: Wednesday, Jan. 13

Time: 8 p.m.

Location: The Underground speakeasy and distillery, located in the basement of The Mob Museum.

Description: Guests are invited to celebrate National Bootlegger’s Day with a curated tasting that will explore the effects of barrel aging on grain-based spirits. From moonshine to well-aged bourbon, guests can experience complex flavors while learning about the role of bootleggers in America’s drinking culture as well as expanding their overall understanding of the history and development of the spirits. The tasting will also include carefully selected small bites.

Guests who cannot attend The Whiskey Club events can enjoy the American Influence flight of four distinctive bourbons ($35) and the Whiskeys of the World flight comprising four international whiskeys ($45), both of which are available daily in The Underground. National Bootlegger’s Day Cocktail: Twisted Turkey

Description: Crafted with Wild Turkey 101, Aperol, pear-ginger shrub, and rosemary simple syrup, the Twisted Turkey cocktail inspired by the bootleggers of the Prohibition era will be available in The Underground for $12.

Vegas Abduction: The Inside Story of the Kevyn Wynn Kidnapping

Date: Thursday, Jan. 21

Time: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Description: In one of the most brazen crimes of the 1990s, two masked men kidnapped Kevyn Wynn, daughter of Strip casino mogul Steve Wynn, from her Las Vegas condo. The high-profile case fell into the lap of federal prosecutor Tom O’Connell. Now retired, O’Connell will join the Museum in-person as he recounts the dramatic rescue of Wynn’s daughter and how investigators tracked down the perpetrators.

Celebrating Black Life in Las Vegas: Honoring the Past, Shaping the Future

Date: Wednesday, Feb. 17

Description: African Americans have played an integral role in the development of Las Vegas since at least the 1940s. It is a rich story of painful challenges and hard-earned triumphs. This panel discussion features individuals who have lived through the highs and lows of the African-American experience in Las Vegas, as well as those who document and preserve that history for future generations. The panel also will discuss the HUNDRED (Historic Urban Neighborhood Design Redevelopment) Plan, the city initiative to redevelop the historic West Las Vegas neighborhood.

Description: As Las Vegas expands into the surrounding foothills, encounters with wild animals are more likely. Lauren Macleod, urban wildlife coordinator for the Nevada Department of Wildlife, will appear virtually to discuss how to avoid wildlife conflicts and keep your pets safe. The Whiskey Club: Scotch

Description: Guests are invited to experience the smoky, peaty intensity of scotch while sampling a diverse flight representing the spirit’s different regions. Established in September 1839 in the rugged northern Highlands of Scotland, The Dalmore was built with eight unique stills, lending distinct complexity to the new-make spirit. Today, under the care of master distiller Richard Paterson, The Dalmore’s single malt scotch whiskies remain a study in elegance and complexity. Single Malt Specialist Jennifer Wren will participate via live stream, and Kyle Cardin, portfolio consultant at E&J Gallo Winery, will co-host locally with a Mob Museum representative.
