SOLD OUT: One Night in Las Vegas: The 25th Anniversary of the Tupac Shakur Murder
Date: Wednesday, Sept. 1
Time: Meet-and-greet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; public program from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Location: Inside the historic courtroom on the second floor.

Description: On the night of September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas, hip hop superstar Tupac Shakur was shot four times while sitting in a car idling at a stoplight. Shakur died six days later at a local hospital. His death was devastating to his family, friends and millions of fans. It also further inflamed tensions between rival record companies on the West and East coasts, as well as between the street gangs associated with them. To mark the 25th anniversary of this horrific event, hip-hop legend Chuck D and others will explore the events that led to Shakur’s death, the controversies that followed and Shakur’s cultural legacy. Guests will also have the unique opportunity to attend a meet-and-greet with all panelists from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Speakers:
- Chuck D, leader and co-founder of the legendary rap group Public Enemy. He was pivotal in advancing hip-hop lyrics and the art of rapping. Chuck D will discuss Shakur’s cultural legacy and the impact of his death.
- E.D.I. Mean, an original member of the Outlawz. The hip-hop group was formed by Shakur just months before his death. On the night of the shooting, E.D.I. was in the car traveling behind Shakur.
- Stephanie Frederic, a journalist and film producer. She has worked on several films, including the Shakur biopic “All Eyez on Me” and the A&E documentary series “Who Killed Tupac?” Before his death, Frederic conducted an exclusive interview with Orlando Anderson, who was the primary suspect in the Shakur murder investigation.
- Frederick Reynolds, retired Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Detective, worked as a training officer, homicide investigator and gang investigator, before being promoted to sergeant and assigned as the supervisor of the homicide unit. Reynolds assisted in “Operation Heatwave”, the massive search warrant operation targeting the two gangs involved in the dozens of shootings and multiple murders in Compton in the aftermath of Tupac Shakur’s murder.
Immunize Nevada COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic
Date: Friday, Sept. 3
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Location: The Mob Museum’s Oscar B. Goodman Conference Room located on the third floor.
Cost: Free
Description: Immunize Nevada will be hosting a vaccine clinic open to the public. Free COVID-19 vaccines will be offered to anyone 12 years and older. There is no appointment necessary, walk-ins welcomed. Health insurance is not required and getting vaccinated will not affect immigration status. Community Safety Forum: School Security
Date: Sunday, Sept. 12
Time: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Description: As students make their way back to campuses for in-person learning this fall, Brian Zink of the Clark County School District Police Department will discuss several initiatives aimed at preventing school violence. School district police work closely with school administrations, community outreach programs, child and family services, charitable youth organizations and other local police agencies to ensure the well-being and safety of students.
Each month, The Mob Museum partners with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and other local agencies to host Community Safety Forums – free public programs focused on pertinent issues that affect Southern Nevada. Thanks to NV Energy, pre-registered guests are given free admission to the Museum following the event. The Mob Museum will also provide a recording of this presentation on its website.

Annual Vitalant Blood Drive
Date: Monday, Sept. 20
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: In Vitalant’s Bloodmobile located in the parking lot behind the Museum.
Cost: Free
Description: The Mob Museum is partnering with Vitalant to sponsor a blood drive in the Vitalant mobile blood unit. As part of its commitment to the community, the Museum is pleased to offer one complimentary single admission ticket to each person donating blood. The ticket may be used through December 30, 2021. Hispanic Heritage Month: Latinos in Law Enforcement
Date: Saturday, Sept. 25
Time: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Description: Hispanics are joining police and federal law enforcement agencies at a higher rate than any other racial or ethnic group in the United States. In recognition of Hispanic Heritage month, the Latin Chamber of Commerce Nevada and The Mob Museum will present a panel discussion highlighting the importance of diversity in law enforcement. This panel discussion, featuring Latino and Latina police officers, will discuss ways to recruit, hire and retain a diverse police force.
Speakers:
- Captain Joshua Martinez has been a member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for more than 20 years. In his current role as Captain of Enterprise Area Command, he mentors other officers, supervisors and managers. He is also responsible for building relationships with community members and groups.
- Currently working as the investigator of internal affairs for the Clark County School District Police, Bernardo Abarca has also served for the Nevada Department of Corrections, Nevada Highway Patrol and the United States Marine Corps.
- Leticia Castro will be moderating this program. She currently serves the city’s Spanish-speaking community as a news anchor for Telemundo Las Vegas.
- Lieutenant Sendy Lopez, is a Navy Veteran. She was recently promoted to Lieutenant for the City of Las Vegas Department of Public Safety. Lopez previously worked in the patrol and investigations section for the City of Las Vegas Department of Public Safety. She currently oversees the patrol section.
- Lieutenant Lorena Perez was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant of the Nevada Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Division in June 2021 and is currently assigned as the Watch Commander over Urban Dayshift Traffic for Southern Command – Las Vegas.
Guests can add the audio tour to any Museum ticket for $8 per individual or $7 for groups of 10 or more.
The Mob Museum’s popular self-guided audio tour has been carefully translated into Spanish and will be available to guests on Sept. 9. Covering exhibits and artifacts throughout the Museum’s four floors, the audio tour allows guests to select the length of their experience from 40 to 60 minutes with the ability to start or stop any time, whether they seek just the tour highlights or want to dig deeper.
